Elizabeth felt her stomach twist at the words. She had hoped the darkness mostly masked what Booker had been doing, but apparently not. Months and months of keeping things quiet, only to find herself in this position now.
She wasn't sure what to say. Should she deny it? No, for most of her time here, she was lying by omission. By sidestepping things. Outright lying was not something she wanted to start doing.
"Not so loud, please," she asked tightly, glancing at a passerby. They weren't paying attention, but she worried they might if they started hearing her say strange things like that. Biting her lip, she hesitated a few moments more before asking, "Do you want to walk with me?"
She had to explain. There was no other option. She just hoped Kate would understand when she did tell her why she kept it as quiet as she did.
